Is the bryophyte soil diaspore bank buffered against nutrient enrichment and grazing exclusion?

چکیده

Abstract Purpose Soil diaspore banks of bryophytes are poorly known in tundra grasslands, yet can be important for the maintenance local bryophyte assemblages. We examined effects fertilization and grazing exclusion on above-ground assemblages soil a grassland. Methods collected samples recorded cover from full-factorial experiment with NPK treatments (a Nutrient Network site NW Finland). were germinated trays greenhouse. analyzed compositions bank assessed their responses to experimental treatments. Results The contained c. 50% taxa found assemblages; 26 bank, while 40 These communities had distinct species compositions: was dominated by Pohlia nutans , several species. negative richness assemblages, weaker these bank. Conclusion comprise about half encountered Bryophyte more buffered against nutrient enrichment than suggesting that may enhance persistence recovery environmental changes.

Bryophyte diaspore bank: a genetic memory? Genetic structure and genetic diversity of surface populations and diaspore bank in the liverwort Mannia fragrans (Aytoniaceae).

Propagule banks are assumed to be able to store considerable genetic variability. Bryophyte populations are expected to rely more heavily on stored propagules than those of seed plants due to the vulnerability of the haploid gametophyte. This reliance has important implications for the genetic structure and evolutionary potential of surface populations. A liverwort, Mannia fragrans, was used to...

Dynamics of Soil Organic Carbon and Aggregate Stability with Grazing Exclusion in the Inner Mongolian Grasslands.

Grazing exclusion (GE) has been deemed as an important approach to enhance the soil carbon storage of semiarid grasslands in China; however, it remains unclear how different organic carbon (OC) components in soils vary with the duration of GE. Here, we observed the changing trends of different OC components in soils with increased GE duration in five grassland succession series plots, ranging f...

the potential of species richness and diversity in soil seed bank under exclosure and grazing

conservation and restoration of biodiversity is very important for degraded rangeland ecosystems. it is necessary to assess the potential of soil seed bank as a major source of species. in this study, the soil seed bank size and composition were compared between exclosure and grazed areas. this was done in chahar-bagh rangelands in golestan province. soil was sampled in exclosure and grazing fr...

The impact of vertic soil cracks on submerged macrophyte diaspore bank depth distribution in Mediterranean temporary wetlands

In temporary wetlands, a majority of diaspores are located in the upper layers of the soil. In general, it is assumed that the vertical movement of diaspores is caused by animal disturbance, and that reduction in this activity concentrates the diaspores in the topsoil. The occurrence of seasonal cracks and the dispersion of topsoil during dry periods are processes that have been underestimated ...

Effects of grazing on soil seed bank dynamics: An approach with functional groups

The relationship between intensity and timing of cattle grazing on changes in the size and composition of the soil seed bank were investigated in a 3-yr study in a Mediterranean grassland in northeastern Israel. Treatments included manipulations of stocking rates and of grazing regimes, in a factorial design. The retrieved soil seed bank community was rich in species, with 133 species accountin...
